Initiatives "Housing for all"

Support for access to the housing market from SOLBRA e.V. in Ludwigsfelde

10/29/2024

Since 2017, SOLBRA e.V. has been engaged in a housing project for displaced people in Ludwigsfelde, which was realized in cooperation with local politicians and housing associations. The organization rents apartments and sublets them to displaced people. This initiative aims to circumvent structural discrimination on the housing market and any reservations landlords may have. SOLBRA e.V. acts as the main tenant and at the same time as a point of contact for both the tenants and the landlords.

An important part of the project is the agreement that the tenancy agreements will be transferred to the displaced people themselves after a transitional period of around two years. This is intended to avoid dependency and enable an independent living situation.

Challenges in implementing the project

From SOLBRA e.V.'s perspective, the implementation of this housing project has been unsatisfactory to date, as there has been little interest from housing associations in providing housing for this purpose, despite the association's “intermediary role”. From 2017 to date, a total of five apartments have been made available by the municipal housing association. Of these, one apartment was rented in each of the years 2022 and 2023 and another apartment in June 2024. Despite these difficulties, SOLBRA e.V. is continuing the project.
