ProjectIndependent asylum procedure counselling & asylum procedure counselling for LGTBIQ+ and vulnerable people seeking protection
01.01.2025 - 31.12.2025
The independent asylum procedure counselling and the asylum procedure counselling for LGTBIQ+ and vulnerable people seeking protection serve to ensure that asylum seekers are informed about the purpose, process and content of the asylum procedure and can receive counselling and support during the process. The goal is to empower displaced people to comprehend the procedure ́s steps, effectively exercise their rights and obligations and to make informed decisions regarding their options. Long called for by non-profit organisations and lawyers, the importance of these instruments in promoting active social participation was finally recognized and passed into legislation by the German government last year.
Target group
We provide both independent asylum procedure counselling and a specialised asylum procedure counselling service for especially vulnerable and LGTBIQ+ people seeking protection at the Brandenburg initial reception centres (EAEs) in Eisenhüttenstadt and Wünsdorf-Waldstadt.
Project objectives and implementation
At these locations, we offer asylum seekers experienced and competent procedural counselling to help them articulate their individual stories of persecution and provide comprehensive information about the persecution they have endured and the risks associated with returning to their home country. In a safe environment, they receive guidance on all legal and factual requirements of their respective procedure (Dublin III, first/second/follow-up application, etc.) as well as information on their procedural rights. This empowers them to actively engage in their procedure and contribute to the rule of law, quality and fairness of the asylum procedure.
